MONKEY WORLD
SATURDAY 7th JUNE
Set amongst the woodland of Dorset lays 65 acres of sanctuary for over 250 primates. Monkey World was set up in 1987 by Jim Cronin to provide abused Spanish beach chimps with a permanent, stable home. Today Monkey World works in conjunction with foreign governments from all over the world to stop the illegal smuggling of apes out of Africa and Asia. At the park visitors can see over 250 primates of more than 20 different species.
Learn all about the closest living relatives through the recorded keeper talks. Simply scan the QR code at each enclosure to watch or listen to the talk while you observe the animals in front of you!
Keepers also hold informal Q&A sessions each day. Starting at 12pm at the marmoset house, you can hear from the people who care for the apes & monkeys every day, and gain an insight into their characters & personalities. The keepers perform a scatter feed to bring the primates closer.
Let your little ones blow off some steam in the three adventure playgrounds, the largest being the Great Ape Play Area at the far end of the park, past the capuchin complex.
With climbing frames, cargo nets, swings & slides, your little monkeys can take inspiration from the primate cousins activities, and see if they can balance as well as a chimp, climb as high as an orangutan, and swing like a gibbon!
Food/Picnics
Walking around the beautiful 65-acre park can work up quite an appetite- luckily, you can relax in one of our many picnic areas situated throughout the park. Enjoy your lunch in the stunning Dorset countryside, but if youve forgotten to pack a picnic, dont panic! The Treetops café is open all year round, serving hot & cold food and a wide range of drinks. Situated near the entrance/exit, and adjacent to the gift shop, visitors can shelter from the elements in the ample indoor seating, or lunch on the patio, watching Hananyas chimpanzee group.
There are 3 kiosks and 2 further cafes open seasonally, during school holidays or other busy periods.
